Inspired by 19​ chairs, this is a project about exploring how beautiful objects can be made through reclaimed material, good design processes and material constraints.

You will go through solid design development and will leave with a unique prototype chair to show for your efforts. The design limitation is that we will be working only with reclaimed pine (sourced from building sites), machined to 35x35mm.

This workshop runs over two sessions. The first session, a half day on the Saturday, will focus on designing your chair and planning the build. You will be introduced to basic technical drawing, with a focus on elevations and 3D drawings.

During the second session on Sunday you will make your chair, working with tools such as a mitre saw, drill and sander and using screw fastenings, glue and clamps to easily create the chairs. Finally, we will sand the final forms and explore different options to finish them.
